Writer's Block: What is your muse?

If you're trying to create something, like a story, a composition, or a design, etc., do you find yourself imagining how others will react to it? Does that impede or enhance the creative process?
Only if I am drawing for someone in particular, then I'll occasionally think about what they like, put it in and smile at the thought of surprising them. Usually I'm the person the story is for when I'm writing. It no longer impedes my creative process.
