Estemmenosuchus mirabilis

Estemmenosuchus skull
4" x 5"
Derwent AquaTone watercolor pencils in Middle Chrome Yellow, Crimson Lake and Ultramarine on paper.
Photo reference by eyepaint on WetCanvas.com for Weekend Drawing Event Oct. 16, 2009.

On the same page, with the same pencils I tried a rough sketch reconstruction of this Middle Permian therapsid, the Crowned Crocodile. An omnivore or herbivore, it was about the size of a bull and seemed to fill a niche a lot like a moose -- and moose have been known to eat meat when they can get it.

Estemmenosuchus sketches
8 1/2" x 11"
Derwent AquaTone primary triad on paper. Reconstruction by imagination. I might continue to develop this and try to work on it again, do other sketches, work up to a decent reconstruction.
