Poppy Alla Prima

8" x 10"
Winsor & Newton OilBars and Sennelier Oil Sticks
Canvas board primed with Rose Grey Art Spectrum Colourfix sanded pastel primer.
From imagination.

I finally decided to try the oil sticks I bought secondhand from the Swap Shop forum on WetCanvas.com -- and I liked how they worked out. They're very paintlike, even softer than Sennelier oil pastels, but the giant sticks and strong colors inspired me to work loose and fast with impasto effects and lots of obvious strokes. A fun, painterly medium. I think next time I'll paint something from life or a good photo and I might skip the primer, it didn't seem to need it.

Thank you! It's drying right now -- like oil paint, these sticks dry to a hard film that doesn't need glass over it. I'm not sure how long it takes though.
