From imagination, testing some ideas about mist and distance, as well as hatching textures vanishing when they cover large areas.

Thanks! At that time of day, when dawn gets that pinkish, it can look like that if it's misty. I remembered this from some trips I was on, it's very cool when it gets like that.

Robert, your work is absolutely beautiful. I love the mood it evokes. This sketch in particular reminds me of the woods where I used to live. It brings back wonderfully happy memories.

Wow, thank you! I can't count the number of times in parks or woods when I saw mist like that and wanted to remember it... so glad it reminds you of some great memories!
