Writer's Block: Anthropomorphic buddies

Have you ever named or befriended an inanimate object? What did you call it?

One of my favorite laptops was a Toshiba named Tommy. He had a definite personality and lasted for years. I had been writing a fanzine story series, sort of collaborative, with a bunch of friends in a science fiction context and my character was an android named Tommy. So it was natural to name my laptop after the character. I always name my laptops. Heh, maybe personalizing it so much helped it thrive and run better! Aside from synchronicity, personifying a laptop that I spend that much time with would keep me paying attention to its needs and doing important little maintenance things like wiping the dust out of its fan outlet.

My current laptop is Racer, it's a 15" wide screen Acer with a gig of RAM and it loads everything so fast that I'm stunned. I download big files so quick it astonishes me. So that's why it's Racer, for its wonderful, wonderful RAM.
