Writer's Block: Some words to live by...

What words do you find wise enough to live by?

That would be the Havamal, ancient Norse poem with the words of Odin. Also much of Robert A. Heinlein's advice. And a few of them I've actually come up with on my own.

Petty authority leads to absolute corruption.

Also, I'm paraphrasing here, but what's gotten me through any number of hard times is a quote from a black liberation philosopher: If you internalize the viewpoint of the oppressor, you assist in your own oppression. That one has done a lot to keep me sane when people in large numbers pressured me to believe amazingly stupid things, like the idea that a physical disability means a person can't be intelligent, creative or educated.

That one resulted in a lot of self-examination and some real whoppers of recognition, finding out that I'd taken in ideas and assumptions I didn't agree with at all consciously. Many of them about physical disability.
