Do you think Heath Ledger deserves the Oscar for his role in the Dark Knight?

I haven't seen the movie, so I can't say. I don't usually pay a lot of attention to the Oscars. I don't get into trying to compare quality of performance across genres, if I love something then it's going to be that memorable. I dislike those awards shows, they're mostly clips of movies I haven't seen and snatches of songs without the full performance and a lot of speeches by performers. The snippets aren't enough to judge quality. I can't recall any year when I actually saw all of the movies that were up for major awards like Oscars.

Yayy coolness! Someone understands! A number of ex housemates did not understand why I didn't get excited about those awards shows.

I think his performance is Oscar-worthy and saves the film BUT I think giving him the Oscar would be tainted by allegations it was for some purpose.

I think he deserves it from what I've seen so far but the media has blown it so far out of proportion I wouldn't be the least upset if he wasn't even nominated.

In many ways I think he would be more aptly recognized with a 'lifetime achievement' or 'spirit' type award where people can't claim it was just because of his death.

I am way, way, way impressed with his acting and the movie would have been a C or C- without him but in context I'm not sure the Oscar is right.

I'm looking forward to the movie, definitely. I was anyway and now you've gotten me more interested.

I didn't know the actor had died, that's how far out of it I am when it comes to pop culture. It would make sense to give him a lifetime achievement award or something either instead of or in addition to it, but as I said, I haven't seen any of the other movies that are up for it either. It's sad but also sort of cool that the last thing the man did was one of his best works, kind of a cool thing to go out on. The sad thing is his not being able to actually get the award himself, they probably mean more to the people who get them than anyone else.
