ACEO landscape in pastels -- birches!

ACEO Birches was painted on turquoise Canson Mi-Tientes with Mont Marte soft pastels and a General's white charcoal pencil. I used the smooth side the way I always do. It's 2 1/2" x 3 1/2" (ACEO = Art Cards Editions & Originals, art exactly that size but can be sold unlike Artist Trading Cards). The colors are a little off, some of the foliage and the leaves in the front are more reddish that look yellowish and the sky is one step more toward green than it is, but it's close in brightness and I did a lot of fiddling to get it this close.

I love birches, and some friends of mine draw and paint them often. This came out a lot better than I expected it to from the trouble I had in the middle and it's actually a bit over two hours of work just getting it done -- but well worth it.

Thank you! I went nutso with detail on this one. I had intended to get looser, but the reference intrigued me and I'm too used to doing things like this in colored pencils where I've got sharp points and plenty of layering. So I layered and detailed a lot more than in some other pastels.

Thank you! Vibrant colors are what pastel always meant to me deep down. Even if I do something more muted, some part of me wants the screaming greens and bright blues and oranges in there... I may do some real bright ones.
