Writer's Block: Now Showing

The holiday season is a big time for box office revenues. What Hollywood releases are you looking forward to seeing in the theater this month? What would you not go see even if someone paid you?

I'm not planning to go to theatres for any movies. It's not worth the expense, the trouble, the overpriced concessions or wrecking my back walking from the parking lot. I'd rather buy candy at the store, make popcorn and rent or buy the movies on DVD.

But there are two movies that I'm interested enough in that they are on my list for when they're in DVD. I've seen a preview for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, which we will probably buy since we own all the rest of them and love the series. I liked the preview.

The other looked amusing for the kittenlets, really a family film -- Ice Age 4: Dawn of the Dinosaurs. The preview showed a return to Edgar Rice Burroughs with the poor squirrel critter chasing its acorn and falling into a hole to a tropical Land Before Time full of dinosaurs.

The "Ice Age" movies are bad paleontology but great fun and the kittenlets love them. When I drew acorns on one of the loops of our twelve foot decorated paper chain, Sascha pointed at them and said "Ice Age!" So we have to get that one.

As for, wouldn't go if someone else paid, that would be most of them. I'm pretty specific in my movie tastes and a lot of the rest of the previews looked dull.

I can't say that I've seen much that looks appealing this holiday, either. Strange, because usually there's a lot of good movies out this time of year.

Actually, I lie. I might see Twilight, out of sheer morbid curiosity. Might.

Twilight is one that when it's a cheap rental I'll probably get it sometime.
