Today's daily art and eHow!

The artwork for How to Draw Santa Claus in Oil Pastels which I just finished doing for eHow. The oil pastels used were Mont Marte oil pastels and one gold Gallery metallic oil pastel for the background. This is a fun little holiday decoration to go up on the wall. You can do it too if you have kids and want to decorate with them -- or click on the line art in the article, blow it up and have them color some of the Santas too! Happy Holidays!

Art with kids
Robert, have you been doing holiday art with your grandkids? That would make a great Norman Rockwell illustration!

Re: Art with kids
Not exactly. Give them a couple more years and I might be. Sascha's still in more of an Expressionist stage, though she's beginning to color within the lines sometimes and she makes these artistic leaps. Last time I drew her "A mommy dinosaur and a baby dinosaur" she put in trees for the sauropods to eat and then drew the rain coming down over their backs in slanted parallel blue strokes.

I sometimes work on it while she's coloring the things I draw for her, but the content of coloring pages is usually whatever Sascha asked for. Bugs, dinosaurs, meercats.

What I am doing is adding these article illustration projects to the decorations every time I finish one. Sometimes I do several of the pattern before getting around to doing the article, as when I did the Brass Jingle Bells one. Sascha was coloring dinosaurs and I drew jingle bells while we watched Meercat Manor and then we put them up in the living room.

This is great!
I have to say you have the talent and skill. I've taken a painting class in the past, but I never truly got the hang of oil painting. I think I need a little more time and patience to master the art. Appreciate your contribution to eHow, Robert!

Re: This is great!
Thanks, Rich!

This is a lot easier than oil painting -- it's more like drawing because it's with oil pastels. But it's still not easy even at the drawing stage, so that's why I keep doing so many eHows -- to make it more easy! If I break it into enough easy projects, people can get it.

Thanks so much! I've been doing more eHows lately and I'm sure I'll do more.
