ACEO in Oil Pastels

ACEO Fish and Coral is still on sale. I'm extending my low minimum bids till Inauguration, going to see what Obama does to stimulate the economy.

I started this with an underpainting in Cretacolor Aqua Monolith watercolor pencils, for the Underpainting page on Explore-Oil-Pastels-With-Robert-Sloan.com and then decided to finish it entirely in Cretacolor Aqua Stic watersoluble oil pastels so as to demonstrate those for my review. I still need to write the review, but I've got stages scanned of this and they are interesting.

I used a dry layer after the underpainting, washed that a second time, then went back in dry and this time kept some areas dry while I worked over them with multiple colors. Then washed the water area and the fish again and used a very pointed watercolor round to dot in te blue markings on the fish and some other markings like the gills. I put the eye in dry and then started scraping to get the lines in te fins and the details of the eye -- it got as fine as I've ever done in scratchboard for some of the scraped details.

Best of all, it's a success in terms of full spectrum color harmony at equal intensity. I really like the way it balanced out, and it's natural for a reef. The auction is only for three days though. So don't think it'll still be there next week, it might not.

I also worked on my site tonight again. Set up its blog function and posted a blog entry. Kitten helped me ping four major search engines too and tell them where the site map is so that they'll update now anytime I add pages. I was pleasantly surprised at the traffic on it. I'm getting a fair number of strangers off Google and Yahoo just finding it on keywords. It's working the way it's supposed to!

Thanks! I had so much fun with this one, both the layering and the details.
