Writer's Block: In a Former Life

Do you believe in reincarnation? If your answer is "yes," describe some of your past lives.

Well, yes. I have a lot of past life memories. I'll just put in one of the most pleasant.
I was a black and white tomcat, bit on the fat side, goodnatured, lived in an English village and loved fish -- it was bizarre remembering it because the taste of his favorite food was wretched to me-now and wonderful to him-then. I met the woman who was my human back then, who looked completely different back then. We recognized each other at a party.

I was slightly drunk. Okay, medium-buzzed. I walked over to her and sat down in front of her leaning my head on her knee. She started scritching my head and giving me a backrub with much petting. I purred, being a cat nut. We got to talking.

"I know we knew each other in a past life and we were very close. I feel like you were my best friend or something and I knew it as soon as you came in the room," she said.

"Yep. I felt the same way and I don't even know you yet, this rocks."

Six months later I did a regression and that cat-life came back. I found out I'd been called Tomkin. I told her about it on the phone. She laughed and told me she always had a black and white male named Tomkin. We both figured it out at the same time and wound up laughing a lot. So like many Hindu people and some other modern pagans, I'm comfortable with accepting animal past lives and not quite as anthropocentric as all that. The life of a cat is not bad!

I have no doubt that in some future life I'll meet someone who'll wind up being an instant friend with very close intensity, give backrubs on sight and it'll be Ari connecting with me again. The things that last between lives go deeper than the details.
