Reef Sketch with Hammerheads

4" x 6" Derwent Tinted Charcoal pencils on white wirebound ProArt sketchbook paper. I felt like a change and got out the color charcoal pencils to fool around, decided on a reef and just made it up remembering the shapes of various reef animals. Just a fun little study in muted colors.

Also, I don't remember if I posted this yesterday or not but after I did the oil pastel landscape in the evening I was discussing eyebrow hairs with another artists on WetCanvas and decided to post my eyebrow. I took the page with the Kitchen Sink Reef and drew my eye in Col-Erase pencils, started by demonstrating the eyebrow and then drew my eye.

I also took a webcam photo of myself to work from that came out decent.

I posted the photo too and a friend caricatured me in a way that made me laugh. First time someone's caricature made me laugh instead of get mad. I think it's because she actually did get my features right and exaggerated me rather than drawing someone I don't know.

Caricaturists often would make my face short or round and not get my drooping eyes or make my nose look small and seem like they weren't even drawing me, the thing that would make me mad is that. But she actually got my real features in the caricature -- short forehead, boney face, pointed big nose, funny long face and pouty lips. It really helped me understand why I hated being caricatured to see someone do it well.

I can't repost art that isn't mine, but maybe I should ask her for permission to blog post it. It's a happy surprise after all the bad caricatures over the years.
