Step 8 -- ouch!

Three out of four drawers are framed. That's the point my swollen hands gave out and I just couldn't keep turning screws into hard particle board. I think the rest will have to wait till tomorrow. Much as I wanted to finish today, this is the hardest part of the entire construction and I've done ten of the tough muscle intense ones already.

My back's gone out. My hip and right leg are down too from moving around and running around too much. I unpacked my good oil pastels and they're on the little blond bookcase.

Karl is going to assemble my two tall bookcases because my screwdriver won't get in where it needs to -- the chuck is too wide. He needed to use one of the conventional ones rather than my changeable-head one. Also there isn't enough space on the floor in my room to spread out with the bookcase parts, so he's assembling in the living room which is grand and spacious. Then he'll carry the finished bookcases upstairs into my room.

I'm tired and it's only twenty to nine, this is frustrating. But it's the fatigue of having done a lot at least. The weather's beautiful and I did get a lot done even if it's not finished. One more day isn't going to ruin it.

I did figure out the bit with the cam posts and cam fasteners -- they are extremely clever and make a much tougher connection between the front and sides of the drawer so it won't pull apart when used. The next bit after the last bit of pain will be nailing on the drawer backs and then the little miscellaneous things like drawer stoppers and decorative black plastic screw covers.

By then Karl will probably bring up bookcases and this part of the whole adventure will be done -- ready for me to start unpacking boxes.

I emptied the top of the Tote Express, tempted to take out the stuff on the bottom too and fold that up in the closet to get it out of the way. Maybe after the dresser's done though.

Sounds like you need an electric screwdriver.

Or a ratchet screwdriver like the one I used to have. I really liked it. I tried an electric once and it seemed a bit silly considering how few times I use one. But that ratcheting one was sweet and got the job done with a lot less work.

I might pick one up, but it's a bit late for it now with only one more drawer to go and my having slept on it and rested. I'll get over the aches I'm whinging about, they are pretty minor and won't last nearly as long as a well-built dresser!
