Daily Art -- More Watercolors!

Gentle, the plowhorse exercise from Watercolour Secrets, Lesson 2. I substituted Quinacridone Burnt Orange for the Light Red and Quinacridone Gold for Raw Sienna to do the background. The background looks better in life, it got funny when I adjusted the scan to show the horse colors accurately. 5" x 7"

Arkansas Wildflowers page in my watercolor journal. I finished up the page with the daylily on it from last time so that whole two-page spread is native wildflowers in Daniel Smith watercolors. 5 1/2" x 8 1/2"

Thai Pheasant from the June 12 Weekend Drawing Event, photo posted by http://www.wetcanvas.com moderator Dewi in Marie's transparent watercolors on Canson Biggie Junior 90lb watercolor paper. I used Crimson Red, Ultramarine Blue, Lemon Yellow and Burnt Umber since I'd set out the primaries to teach Sascha how to mix primaries this morning and decided to use up the leftover paint -- then mixed some black with the Burnt Umber.

Marie's is a Chinese company with a number of products carried at loony low prices -- watercolor, gouache, acrylics, oils, oil pastels, Chinese watercolors. http://www.aswexpress.com has them. They don't have the pigment concentration of Daniel Smith or Winsor & Newton Artist watercolors but they're good student watercolors at the ludicrous prices ASW often puts them on sale. 18 tubes for $4.99 or $5.99?? They are surprisingly good for that price.
