My first ride!

Okay, it's not my first ride ever in my life, but it's the first time I've been riding in decades. It was also the first time I managed to get onto a horse without a leg up. I managed it. Felony is only 14 hands, not a very large horse, and I was able to haul myself up onto her without help! So that was awesome.

I felt on top of the world as Kitten led her around the ring with me on her back. It was surprisingly comfortable and easy riding in a Western cutting saddle. I was so happy I was grinning like a fool through the whole thing. I'm still reeling. This rocks.

I was even able to stay on my feet afterward and brush her down, which I got both sides and her pretty face with the face brushing brush. The face brush is softer than the stiff brush for her body. She liked the brushing. She's a sweet tempered mare, so beautiful and so gentle.

I also did a page in my watercolor journal and a sketch of her on the first page of my new sketchbook, broke it in with a good loose drawing of Felony.

Horse page in my watercolor journal, W&N field box artists watercolors.

Felony sketch, black grease pencil on paper, first page in my new sketchbook. A little light but I got her proportions decent.

Love these! Robert, do you know if they are having an ArtsMoFo this year?

Yes! Some people are already posting in artsomofo and I'm going to be using October to finish the Cat/Wombat Diptych for laurenmitchell or at least get some good progress on it if it starts turning into a botch.
