Garden Trees in Pan Pastels

Garden Trees
8" x 10"
Pan Pastels on canvas board primed with Aubergine AS Colourfix sanded pastel primer.
Photo reference by oldrockchick for Jan. 8 2010 Weekend Drawing Event on WetCanvas.com.

The walls on the left aren't really that blue, the photo distorted the color there when I adjusted it on the trees. The walls are accurate in the preliminary layer:

Early stage underpainting for Garden Trees, with accurate color on the walls. I got the walls and the yucca branch mostly done at that point and didn't change them from the final.

I also made a complete mess of myself, my room and my bed doing this one. I had the paper towels I was cleaning off the sponges on the bed. I didn't realize till I was done that I was shaking dust off those paper towels -- but there was a two foot wide green patch on the red sheets! Nothing I wanted to sleep in.

So I changed the sheets, swept up and showered, throwing my back with the sheet changing on what wasn't a really good day. But I got clean and got my room clean. It feels good today to have things clean even if my back is still twinging and saying "take it easy." Maybe I should get back to gouache ATCs or oil pastels and not get so dusty again right after this!

That and spread out a towel on the bed when I'm pasteling so it can just get tossed in the laundry when that happens.

I got so tired after all that, I went to bed at 7pm and woke up again at two thirty in the morning. Go fig. Well, at least it helped my back crashing that early!
