Derwent Coloursoft colored pencils
Light grey ClaireFontaine PastelMat

I reviewed these pencils at my new art supply review blog: Derwent Coloursoft review and had to have a good example showing what the pencils can do. I've had the full range for several years now, but I got a set of twelve in my review goodies package. So I decided to test the smaller range.

Whoohoo, I can recommend the 12 color tin without reservation, you can mix anything with it. They rock. I liked them all along, now I've written them up. I might do a HubPages article on the process too since I scanned stages on it.

I painted this from life, just put two marbles and an aquamarine crystal on the shiny touchpad of my laptop so they wouldn't roll away. Six hours later I had the largest colored pencils marbles painting I've ever done, and I'm very happy with it. I used some color tricks from my pastels class and recent pastel painting to make the gray a lot more sparkly. Definitely one to frame and hang.

request for an image
Hi Robert, I just came across a drawing of pecan tree you drew back in 2005 (I think)and was posted on wetcanvas.com under 70184 border_tree.
I really got my attention and was wondering if I could acquire the image from you. I'm interested in using it as a logo for my father's inlaw pecan farm. I'm an artist myself and had worked on some tree designs already but your border tree really hit home.
Pls contact me at mariaborowik@gmail.com
Thank you! And I was looking at your blogs and your work is great.

I replied by email, but I'm not sure which image you mean. You can use it, just credit me with a link to my oil pastels site: http://www.explore-oil-pastels-with-robert-sloan.com is the link.

Whoa, that's really beautiful! They almost look like they're gonna fall out of my computer screen and start rolling around =)

Thank you! They sure did that all through my painting them. If I breathed they'd roll around on the touchpad, fortunately I only dropped one on the floor once while setting them up.

The aquamarine crystal got into the composition in order to keep the blue marble in the back corner. It kept wanting to slide forward!
