Life Got Lots Better!

Big thanks to everyone who prayed, sent healing energy, wished me luck... I got some fantastic luck.

I tried one more place to get my pain pill prescription written and paperwork done for In Home Support Services (IHSS - the people who send over someone to help with Activities of Daily Living). A friend on WetCanvas suggested the UCSF campus emergency room. University of California San Francisco campus has a teaching hospital.

They also have the best ER that I've ever seen in my life. They have it set up for what emergency rooms get used for - routine medical appointments by uninsured people and poor people. Instead of just turning people away, they have a system where if you have a non-emergency complaint, you can pay $4.99 to phone ahead, reserve the next available appointment time and wait at home instead of sitting there for seven or eight hours if the ER is busy.

So I went on Sunday when I thought the ER wouldn't be busy. I looked at the time slot listed for that special service, noticed it was within an hour of arriving and decided not to bother. I got seen within the hour. It was very quiet.

They were incredibly helpful. The doctor listened to me about everything, understood all I needed was one month's pain pill prescription to get through till I have my primary care physician appointment and wrote it. She also wrote me a prescription for Flexeril to replace the Baclofen muscle relaxant that gave me hives. She ordered a new cane for me.

Someone came in and fitted it to me. I didn't even have to adjust the height, it's an adjustable aluminum one and takes a little strength to snap it and slide it around to change height. That was so great. It's easier to use and more support than my old one. Plain and simple, shiny metal with a gray rubber handle.

I can dress it up with art or something to make it more artistic and no doubt when I'm more prosperous, I'll get fancier ones. Right now I love it because it's such good support.

Finally, the charge nurse did sign my IHSS form. The doctor didn't but said to ask the charge nurse. She asked a few more questions, filled out the form and signed it.

I had my appointment on Monday with my social worker from IHSS. He was amazed I'd gotten the form signed, so he pulled strings to get me a temporary service starting September 1st. My room is clean. I'm clean, I've finally had that assisted bath I needed. She's here again this morning taking my laundry to the laundromat.

Then over Labor Day Weekend, I wrote a Three Day Novel, an official entry because a good friend paid my entry fee. I've got high hopes for this year's, but that's why I wasn't posting.

I spent a lot of time resting up after these things and really passed out once the book was done. Been doing great things and sleeping a lot afterwards. Purring at you all. Ari sheds Cat Hairs of Inspiration!

Robert that's great news all around. I've been following your adventures here and on Wetcanvas, been too busy to do anything but lurk lately. I did notice your lack of cyber presence but I'd forgotten about your yearly participation in the 3-day novel. Bravo! Great to hear you're getting on well in SF.

Thank you! Purr! Yep, Labor Day Weekend is always a time when I don't participate much anywhere. I took my annual vacation from reality this year running off with elves and it was loads of fun.

Oh, I am so, so happy that things are working out so well for you. I was looking at canes here but the adjustable ones seemed extremely flimsy and the solid ones were pretty but of course I didn't know what height you'd need.

Huzzah for the Three Day Novel! I have writer's block at the moment, but instead of fighting it I'm taking the time to read some books and watch some TV instead of forcing myself to write. I know I'll get the energy back by November.

Aww you sweet heart! My adjustable one is sturdy and eventually I'll order some of the solid fancy ones when I'm prosperous - and have those cut to my height now that I know what that is from the adjustable one. It's so cool.

Every week life gets a bit better as more gets sorted out. I've still got some uphill battles though - but I've got help with them now. My case manager visited day before yesterday and he's helping me try to get transportation sorted out before my doctor appointment.
