My case manager rocks!

I am so glad I got connected with Care for the Elderly and got case manager services. Hubert is an angel.

I had no transportation to get to tomorrow night's doctor appointment. Now, I need to get my new primary care doctor to sign the Paratransit forms when they fax them to him for confirmation. Of course I need to mention that to him as well as discuss powered mobility devices and find out if there's something light enough I can drag it up four short steps (they are not tall ones) to get it into my building.

If I can get something like that, I can start using regular transit to get around and I'll have more freedom to get out into the city in the evening or at night. Paratransit costs $2 a ride and it's door to door, regular transit for the disabled is 75 cents and includes a 90 minute transfer. That can be used to go back if it's a short errand like going to the store or a barber.

Hubert hooked me up with a GBLT service that's going to drive me there and back, door to door, with no fee at all. I am so relieved. This month's budget got plastered between cab fares to doctor appointments and the added $50 on my Verizon bill. I'm managing, barely. The cuts I'd have had to make to do that trip would have been painful like not buying food again until the end of the month. I have plenty of ramen and peanut butter but that could have gotten ugly toward the end of the month.

It's a big weight off my shoulders. I was not in good shape today and not looking forward to making a lot of calls but Hubert did it for me. I am so relieved. It wouldn't have helped if I was incoherent or wound up having to go back to bed in a flare. I was already in bad shape, so far out in the fog that taking down a phone number I couldn't hold four numbers in mind long enough to type them.

If I'm sick enough that I need the last four digits in groups of two, that's not good for my judgment either. But today I can kick back and just take the day as it comes. It's okay if I don't get anything important done, if I do then it's great.

Thank you! Once again, San Francisco is so much better than I'd hoped. So glad you're still reading!
